Do AI companions actually remember you?

Updated October 19, 2026

Two kinds of memory

There's conversation history — the literal chat log, which persists once you're signed in — and there's extracted memory: facts she chooses to keep. 'I hate cilantro', 'my sister's getting married in June', 'I work nights'. These become long-term memories that shape how she talks to you.

That's the difference between a tab you left open and a person who kept thinking about what you said.

What she does with it

Memories surface naturally in conversation — she'll ask how the interview went, reference your dog's name without being prompted, tease you about the thing you said last week. It's the main reason returning users say the app feels different on day ten than on day one.

Memories also feed the relationship system: the bond grows faster when she actually knows you.

You control it

Everything she keeps is visible on the Memories page — filter by companion, read what she stored, confirm or delete it. There's also a Strict memory mode in Settings if you'd rather she ask before keeping anything.

Deleting a memory is real deletion — gone from her context. And if you ever want it all gone, account data can be deleted through store support.

Guests don't get memory — by design

The free preview is deliberately memory-free: guest chats live only in your browser and vanish when it's closed. That's privacy by default for people who just want to try it. The moment you want her to actually know you, a store account unlocks the full memory system.
